Profile
A fresh, young 4-piece teenage rock band from Perth, Australia The Plugs have only been together for one year but in that time have managed to pump out some hard, catchy original tracks that'll tempt any ear. The Plugs are determined to continue working hard and rocking out and produce an EP in the near future. For anyone interested in rock, youth bands and future music, The Plugs are one not to be missed!
School age rock band The Plugs are well beyond their years in musical organisation and talent. Having only been together for just over one year, the boys have accomplished a lot. The boys won the Avon Rock battle of the bands in November 2010 and recently the Sound Overload battle of the bands competition organised by the City of Bayswater. They also played to a packed City Beach at Exposure Youth Festival run by the Town of Cambridge Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) earlier this year. Due to demand via CD&rsquos at school, Facebook and a standing room only open mic session The Plugs played their first solo gig at the Rosemount Hotel in late 2010.
The Plugs have received some encouraging criticism from the public who has deemed their style as &ldquo...a trend away from the softer indie mainstream and a return to a hard grungy sound with a touch of sophistication&rdquo.
All the boys are serious about their school study and are also heavily involved in community sport, school sport, community youth movements and have undertaken leadership roles at school.  With the limited time left they efficiently fit in their musical preparation. The school holidays are the perfect time to work on their play list and record their original songs.
Ben on drums (Mapex Toms, Sabian Cymbals) is only 14 (Year 9 at Mt Lawley High), whilst Zibby on bass guitar (Monterey Stage Series 4-string/Burns Club Series Bison Bass) and Russell on rhythm guitar (Fender American Stratocaster) are 16 (Year 11 at Carmel School). Lead guitarist and vocalist Zak (Fender American Stratocaster) is the eldest of the group at 17 (Year 12 at Hale). Guest member Justin (Year 11 at Hale) is a jazz piano prodigy and is on call for gigs that require his talent. The boys are chronic Muse fans and play several Muse covers at their gigs. They also cover their other great inspiration the Living End, U2, Arctic Monkeys, White Stripes and their original songs recorded last year &ldquoWitched&rdquo, &ldquoInfamous Man&rdquo and &ldquoImmortality&rdquo are also part of their awesome play list. They continue to grow their playlist and now have 8 original pieces and this number is growing. They are aiming to release an EP by the end of this year.
The boys practice every week in a partly renovated Hall of an old age home in Dianella. The sound is deafening but of course no one seems to mind there! The boys donated some of the proceeds from their gig back to the Old Age home in appreciation of their being able to practice there. The boys said, &ldquoAt least we appeal to the blue rinse and the Zimmer set.  I think they secretly look forward to the school holidays where they can hear us for free nearly every day!&rdquo
With Zak approaching WACE exams this year and planning to study Commerce next year at Uni the bands fortunes will be in good hands.
