Lipsmack
Chicks that rock like this? I can’t believe I haven’t found these girls earlier. Lipsmack! Great name, what a vibe. I thought I was looking at the Donnas out of California at first but no, these fine ladies are from RAdelaide! Look, they’re not reinventing the wheel but who wouldn’t fill this sucker up with premium gas. When it’s done well, classic rock is hard to beat and goes down a treat, particularly when 3 girls still in high school can go this hard. From the looks of their social media they’ve played some serious venues already with some big crowds, all puckered up by the end incidentally. Rocking. I’m particularly impressed with their song Dangerous, really simple little hook but I love it, a newer flavour to it that reminds me of Metric out of Canada which makes it feel like the music’s going somewhere.
The other songs posted are a little more referential, a little bit in the past for me, but no doubt would be oodles of fun live. As they should be, Lipsmack are super fond of a breakdown so they can let their fingers do the ripping and why not, they’re plugged in and distortion sounds amazeballs. Back yourself girls, when you’ve written something that might sound a little bit out there for you, trust it and see where it’ll go. I feel something super fresh bursting to get out.
